Completely redesigned last year, the 2003 ES 300's only change is the addition of power-adjustable pedals.

Pros:
  • Comprehensive array of luxury and convenience features, superb ride quality, smooth and silent V6, advanced safety technology, excellent reputation for reliability.
Cons:
  • Bland driving characteristics, less powerful than most competitors, many of the desired features and options are expensive, no split-folding rear seat.

Wanted to get the Lexus RX 300 for my wife; but after test driving the RX and the ES300....she opted for the ES because it handled better for her ..noted that the RX did not have the pick up of the ES ......shocked to read that Edmunds.com rated the car at 8.0 only and even more surprised to read the feedback of various ES owners ....4.3 to 9.0 ...what a varied range of opinions! Ask me in a year how I rate this ES 300! I am keeping my fingers crossed. My wifes previous car is a 1991 Acura Legend and I had to fight to get her to give up her Legend!

I bought a Certified Pre Owned with 33k Miles fully loaded - I am disappointed at the control options - Most of it seemed to be copied from Camry. Most annoying feature is the Cruise Control. Most of the controls can be fixed on the steering. Smooth ride but engine cribs on inclined roads.

  • Performance a bit disappointing - 2003 Lexus ES 300

This car has the mushiest transmission shift I have ever experienced. The car lags annoyingly when attempting to accelerate for passing at highway speeds, and never seems to select the appropriate gear for optimum performance. The fit, finish and luxury of the car are beyond reproach. Unfortunately, driving pleasure is marred by the transmission characteristics for which Lexus has no cure. Ive had two Mercedes sedans recently and the ES300 just doesnt measure up to the performance standards set by the Benzs.

Looked at the Cadillac CTS and the Infiniti G35. Picked the Lexus based on reputation and front wheel drive (Chicago Winters) although the Cadillac and G35 were sportier. I have a 62 mile daily commute and enjoy the ride. Heated seats are a nice touch on the cold winter days.

  • Best car Ive ever owned - 2003 Lexus ES 300

You have to understand the Lexus ES300 is the first non-American car Ive ever purchased, so I may not be the best judge. Nonetheless, it is clearly the best car I have ever owned. I traded in a Buick I thought I loved and have never regretted it. I also test drove a Mercedes, a BMW, an Acura, a Cadillac CS and a Lincoln LS. In the end I still bought the Lexus. The ONLY thing I can say that the others had over the Lexus is exterior design. The Mercedes and BMW are "classier looking and the Cadillac is just more interesting looking.

This is a nice car for a family car. It is underpowered and that is the one bad thing about it. I would say that over all that is nothing too big. I would also advise someone to look at the Toyota line for a better buy on almost the same car. However if you dont mind paying up front five to six grand extra for the Lexus then this is better than the E class from Germany. The dealer will not kill you when you go back in and get anything extra or for service work. I have had several of each and the Lexus is much the best.

  • ES300 a true Lexus - 2003 Lexus ES 300

A car with good ride, very confortable, Lexus quality is difficult to beat. If you like luxury and smooth ride, its a best car of is category. Not a sporty car, but a luxurious one. I choose the ES300 for is smoot ride and great quality construction.

  • Wonderful - with even greater potential - 2003 Lexus ES 300

A wonderful vehicle in a class by itself. Attracts attention, but the ES and Camry look too similar. Fantastic interior. Comfortable seats with a myriad of adjustments. First-class fit, finish and quality of materials, exceeds quality of others in class. Ride is plush, but not advertised as a sports sedan. Safety features abound. Excellent driver and passenger protection. Many comfort and convenience features, yet there is room to further distance the ES from the pack with the addition of convenience option features from the LS series e.g., keyless entry/ignition, storage bins, auto-adjusting steering wheel, auto door closure, etc.

  • First Lexus still remembering my Benz - 2003 Lexus ES 300
    By -

First Lexus. I looked at all of the competition:Mercedes,Jaguar,BMW,Audi and Volvo. After owning a Benz my 1st thought was to get another one. After reading some reviews on Edmunds, I decided against it. As for the Lexus, good car but a little dull. I love the interior and the navigation and the overall space. I still havent gotten used to the exterior styling, the headlights in particular. I have had squeaks, rattles and a thumping sound in the trunk during initial acceleration. Turns out the dealer has been getting this complaint. Problem is when the gas tank is full, the fuel swishes and makes a pounding sound. Reliable, but vanilla.
